I did a soft launch of my first book as I tried to figure out how self publishing works from beginning to end. It has been quite the process. Now that I am trying to sell a book, all my algorithms have changed and I am being bombarded by other people trying to sell their books. It has been useful in some respects. I can see who is getting more notice for their type of advertising and what really seems to be working in the real world and not on lists of tips and tricks.
I hope whoever bought my book enjoys it as much as I did writing it. The editing process was the long and difficult part, but now I have a process. I know who to contact and what to expect going forward.
In the future, I will probably have to make my books Amazon exclusive at first in order to get more people to give me a chance. I am not looking forward to that. However, they own most of the market. Everything will still eventually go out everywhere as I encourage alternatives.
This has been the craziest endeavor I have ever taken on by myself and at times the anxiety was so high that I wanted to quit. Yet I persevered. I have another sci-fi novel in the works, the original fantasy story I started this journey with (nearly done), and a new one set in a post-apocalyptic world. I find that to overcome writer’s block, I tend to switch stories that I am working on. I feel like the ideas flow easier if I find an outlet.
